How Women Leaders Are Transforming the Notion of Success

13 March 2023

This Women’s Month, we’re putting the spotlight on TDCX’s three women leaders across the globe. What has their journey of success been and what positive impact have they made in the workplace?

In recent years, women have made a significant impact across various industries. Their contributions have allowed them to reach new career highs and pave the way for other women. However, women today still face challenges rooted in stereotypes, inclusion, and representation. We sit down with three of TDCX’s women leaders across the globe to understand how they let these obstacles fuel them, rise even further above, and create positive change at work.

Angie Tay, Group COO and EVP at TDCX Singapore, Thailand, China & Korea, Sophie Chelmick, Senior VP at TDCX EMEA, and Bianca De Jesus, Senior Solutioning Director at TDCX Philippines talk about their careers in TDCX and how their experiences have reshaped their professional outlook.

Being a woman in leadership is a brave and admirable feat. Could you tell us what’s the best thing about your job?
Sophie Chelmick: Inspiring and empowering others to reach their full potential and make a positive impact on the business.
Bianca De Jesus: Each day is an adventure of its own. New ideas, new projects, and new connections.
Angie Tay: I work with such a great team, and with them, we're able to achieve our goals.

Tell us about your first role at TDCX. When did you join, what was your job title, and what did you do?
Bianca: I joined TDCX in May 2018 as the Business Excellence Director for the Philippines. I was a one-woman team who had to build the department from the ground up.

Angie: I joined TDCX in 2004 as a Client Services Manager for a telemarketing project for an insurance client. It has been an amazing journey so far.

Sophie: I joined TDCX in October 2018 as the Country Director for Spain—I was the first TDCX team member in Europe. I was entrusted with extending the already impressive TDCX footprint into Europe. Looking back, there was a lot to do in a relatively short time but I was so energized with the culture of TDCX that nothing seemed impossible!

What do you consider to be your biggest accomplishment at TDCX?
Angie: I feel proud that TDCX Singapore has received multiple prestigious regional and international awards since 2005. We've certainly come a long way since then.

Sophie: I was able to sign on our first European logo despite being a one-woman team! Sitting in a 30-person office by myself, I was convincing a prospect that TDCX could run their inside sales business for them. I told them that although I was physically alone, I was supported by a reputable and established business that had the experience to make it work.

Bianca: TDCX has accorded me several opportunities to achieve what I consider the biggest and most distinct milestones in my career: earning PH its first round of triple-ISO certifications, publishing our first couple of e-books, and launching our inaugural thought leadership event. Because of these, TDCX has encouraged me to continue reinventing myself.

How different are women leaders at TDCX?
Sophie: Regardless of gender and cultural differences, I think all of the leaders at TDCX have quite authentic experiences that give us all credibility. In my case, I started my own career from being a contact center agent to being a site director before I joined TDCX. Each role gave me an insight into the problems I knew I needed to solve for our clients and for our people, and also taught me the value of brand advocacy.

Angie: Here, we're all about development and improvement in both our work and personal lives. We're always looking for the next challenge and where we can learn new things. This way, we're prepared to tackle whatever comes our way, making turning challenges into opportunities.!

Bianca: Women leaders at TDCX take inspiration from our mothers, sisters, and colleagues who ace it in their respective fields. We are part of the TDCX culture that unapologetically empowers everyone.

What is your career advice to fellow women?
Angie: Set your goals and work towards them. Learn continuously. Work hard, work as much as you like, but do not neglect the other aspects of your life.

Sophie: Speak up. Support each other. Believe in yourself, trust your own judgment, and don’t be easily swayed by others’ opinions. Probably the most important decision that you’ll make is to find the right support system for you—this impacts more areas than just your career, so choose wisely.

Bianca: Dream big. Aim high. Take a break with no regrets. Compare not. And thank yourself.
